Pop Smoke Dies at 20. The Brooklyn rapper was allegedly shot during a home invasion
Reports from TMZ and Rolling Stone states that Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke has died at the age of 20 . From TMZ’s source, he was shot during a home invasion at his house in Hollywood Hills. Pop Smoke was reportedly announced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood on the morning of Wednesday, February 19. The suspects have not been caught.
Situated in the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn, Pop Smoke was frequently refered to as a pioneer of the scene known as Brooklyn drill. Following the arrival of his 2019 breakout single “Welcome to the Party,” Pop Smoke dropped two mix-tapes: last year’s Meet the Woo and Meet the Woo Vol. 2, which arrived this month. “Welcome to the Party” had official remixes from both Nicki Minaj and Skepta. Pop Smoke also assisted Travis Scott on “GATTI” from last year’s JACKBOYS label compilation.
As news of Pop Smoke’s death spread quickly online Wednesday morning, rappers remembered him on Twitter. “You made the whole city proud,” wrote Bas, who is signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville Records. “Sad man, just sad,” added another New York rapper, Joell Ortiz. “RIP Pop Smoke.”
